At La Brava – Volume Two Of Red Desert Saga

SOUQ are a portuguese rock band formed by Bruno Barreto(Bass), Bruno Tavares(vocals), Jorge Loura(guitar), Jorge Oliveira(drums), Paulo Gravato(baritone sax), Rui Bandeira(trombone) and Gabriel Neves(tenor sax). Picking from their rock roots, SOUQ embraces psychedelia, blues, funk and jazz to build a sound that is always dynamic and hard-hitting, as if Captain Beefheart was playing Dave Brubeck songs with Black Sabbath as a backing band. In 2014 SOUQ released they’re debut album “At La Brava – Volume Two Of The Red Desert Saga”, a conceptual album which is the beginning of a trilogy based in the imaginary city of La Brava, hidden in the Red Desert.

Formed in 2009
Origin: Aveiro, Portugal

During the first leg of their promotional tour of "At La Brava", which took place between June and December of 2014, SOUQ were the opening act for US garage/soul/punk rockers The Bellrays, and were part of the line-up of Reverence Valada Festival.

“It isn’t common, in our country, bands showing traces of influences from Mike Patton’s side projects: Tomahawk, Mr. Bungle or Fantômas. Now, doing it merging, with a remarkable talent I might add , desert rock and brass instruments… That’s not common anywhere. Huge trip of psychadelia, blues, pop and jazz. Super record!”

"Innovative, super interesting and bound to surprise every time, SOUQ cross rock, jazz, progressive, alternative, funk and big bands. Add all the innate capacity for experimentation and manipulation of sounds, creating almost the soundtrack of a movie, and you get a picture of the unforgettable experience that is listening to SOUQ. They challenge all pre-established stylistic boundaries. This premise definitely marks a collective that must be followed, and a bold and sophisticated record with enormous creative potential. Truly remarkable!"

"SOUQ are a rock sextet from Aveiro with a phenomenal debut album recently released: “At La Brava - Volume Two of Red Desert Saga". The band really stands out by the fanfare drums, brass & bass that, coupled with rock riffing and a portentous voice, gives them a unique sound in the current Portuguese modern music scene."
